Helmholtz poem inspires John to read Shakespeare. The poem has gotten him into trouble, but he is happy because now his words finally mean something to him. Helmholtz reads a poem about being anti-social that he has written. Bernard then brings John to meet Helmholtz, and the two hit it off instantly. The party guests then leave since John wasn't there and this embarrasses Bernard and destroys his popularity. He is disgusted and confused by the new world that he has been thrown in to. However, John refuses to see anybody and doesn't attend the party. This confuses and frustrates Lenina.īernard throws a party to show off John to a bunch of high caste people, including the Arch Community Singster of Canterbury. The feely was pornographic and was about a black man abducting a white girl and having sex with her.Īt the end of the date, John drops Lenina off at her apartment and refuses to have sex with her. He also goes on a date with Lenina to a feely (like a movie). Also he discovers that there is no Shakespeare in the libraries. He vomits during a tour of baby factory, disgusted how the make and treat the babies. Meanwhile, John is having a hard to adjusting to London. In one of his reports he lectures Mustapha Mond and offends him. Bernard is also named John's legal guardian and writes reports to Mustapha Mond about his behavior. Yet, Bernard doesn't seem to care and doesn't respond when Bernard tells him these things.
Bernard is now very popular with the ladies and he brags to Helmholtz about his sexual conquests.
Bernard now finds himself popular because everyone wants to see and meet "The Savage" (name given to John). Linda starts taking very high dosages of soma, and goes on a permanent soma-holiday. The Director resigns because of the scandal.
